FROM THE PRESIDENT

We had another night of goodies from the same family that sent them in for our October meeting.  Hope you all went home with some neat stuff!  Thank you Marjorie Thomas for arranging this!  With all of this, I don’t think many of us got much done on our projects.

I came home from the RIM event full of ideas. First, for those who don’t know what RIM is,  here is the short version.  It is RETREAT INTO MINIATURES which is a NAME club with a closed membership -- only 60 members are allowed.  If you want to be on the waiting list see one of the members listed below.  It takes several years to get in.

For a whole weekend in October RIM does nothing but miniatures.  There are many classes and a project for the weekend.  Food, gifts, ideas, etc are all on the agenda.  You learn and meet many miniature enthusiasts.  Some MAME members who attended this year were Donna Balsley, Jodi Eklund, Peg Eklund, Barb Hefti, Lori Johnson, Charlotte LaGesse Millisor, Donna Thorson, Rita Wandel, Nancy Woudstra, and myself.  Hope I didn’t miss any and hope they bring finished products for Show and Tell.

Lori and I did a lot of brainstorming, talked with a few people, and came up with lots of ideas you will be hearing about in the coming months.

Rita Wandel has a wonderful collection of holiday village buildings and decorations that takes about two weeks to set up.  She has graciously extended (with a little arm twisting) an invitation to our club to an open house to view this display.  It will be Saturday, December 29.  Mark your calendar.  Time will be given later.

Our holiday party will soon be upon us -- Thursday, December 13.

See you at the meeting.

A half scale Carlson dollhouse will be given away at this coming meeting.  Members wishing to participate placed their names in a box;  the winner will be notified later.

New Member

Marsha Fink attended the September meeting and has now joined MAME.  She will receive the Tool Kit assembled by Nancy Woodstra.

Upcoming Events

At our last meeting there was preliminary discussion about working with Sue Fredrickson on a 4H project.  This activity is still pending.  The original discussion centered around setting aside time on a Saturday in February for one to one and one half hours to work on a hands-on project.  The goal is to share and promote the art of miniatures.

Treats

Nancy Woudstra provided delicious cupcakes decorated for Halloween.  Each included a small plastic pumpkin on top.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Display At Portage

Linda Kasper reported that nothing has been discussed and we probably won’t do it.

Sun Prairie Display

Lori reported that the library has been reserved for April 1-30 2008 as well as the month of October of Miniature Month.  It will give members an opportunity to display projects that we have worked hard on to complete.

Silent Auction

The silent auction will be held at the May 2008 meeting.  Members are encouraged to donate items for the auction.

Wee C Show

The Wee C Club will have it’s show November 10-11.  Forms were supplied for those who wish to display.

Progressive Dinner

It was suggested that a progressive dinner take place in the spring.

SHOW AND TELL

Nancy Flanagan completed a Michael’s one inch scale house decorated for Halloween.  It was lighted and included skeletons, bones, and apples for bobbing along with other Halloween items.  Paper from a scrapbook store was used to cover the walls.  It was a Christmas gift from a friend.

Charlene Burgess recently returned from a trip to Europe where she purchased a cut out dollhouse from an Amsterdam museum.  The house was a Poppen Huis-Rembrandt.  She visited the Rothenberg Doll and Toy Museum in Germany

Loretta Snee has completed a number of 1/144” scale row houses that include a log cabin and a farm house, all of which are furnished.  She also brought a number of dental tools for those who wish to use them on their miniature projects.

Diane Barden completed several of the china cabinets project in September with a holiday or seasonal theme.  They included Halloween, pumpkins for fall, snowmen for winter, and Thanksgiving.

Peggy Bugg recently returned from a trip with a NAME dollhouse she acquired from a friend.  It was originally used as a tool box and included a handle and  slot for a ruler.  Tack stripping was used for the siding and trim and it was painted with glow-in-the-dark puff paint.  A stunner!

Jodi Eklund showed a prototype for a castle that will be made later this month at a RIM in West Bend.

Books, magazines, and a room full of miniatures, kits, room boxes, etc. from an anonymous donor were made available to the group.  Everyone left with something to add to their collections at home.  The remaining magazines will be taken to RIM.

MAME CHRISTMAS PARTY

As committee members finalize plans for the Christmas Party December 13, it is important to know how many will attend.  Beverages including decaf coffee will be offered.  Please complete the form this page and give it to Marjorie Thomas at the end of the November meeting.  If you are unable to attend that meeting, please send the sheet (or information) by December 1 to Marjorie Thomas, 505 Edward St, Madison WI 53711, or telephone her at 271-1069.

NOVEMBER PROJECT – BEAD ANGEL

Lori Johnson has planned a fast, simple holiday project for the November meeting.  No sense getting  involved in a huge project this time of year!    Besides, we need extra time for the Show and Share projects from RIM.   Georgia should bring extra mini bucks.

Lori has taken the bead angel from Miniature Collector and come up with a few fun variations.  There will be lots of beads and sequins to play with so you can make extra angels – maybe an angel choir.

NOTE from Lori:  I have found a brand of super glue that I can use without fighting it. The Locktite Super Glue Gel Control is at Walmart and probably any hardware store.  I found it with the construction adhesives, wood glue, and tapes near the paint and hardware area.  The stuff is great.  It comes out evenly, does not dry up after one use, and is a thin gel that stays in place.  It is in a gray bottle with blue trim.

Supplies needed:

-        Super glue or similar brand.

-        Tweezers.

-        Magnifiers.

-        Small sharp scissors.

-        Basic tools for shaping flower petals – embossing tool with a piece of foam or mouse pad to shape the wings and collar.

-        Take home container with a bit of blue tack.

-        Toothpick for gluing.

-        Thick white glue such as Tacky.

She will bring some Bunka for hair.  If you have other colors for variation, bring it.  Cost will be minimal since most of the supplies are from our stashes.
