NEXT MEETING
Where: Covenant Presbyterian
When: Thursday, October 11, 7pm
What: Fun with Nancy and Lori
Presenter: Nancy Flanagan and Lori Johnson
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello everyone! The fall colors are here and we’re all working on Halloween projects, right?
Thank you Peggy Bugg for doing our activity last month, the Michael’s hutches. I still haven’t finished mine – have you?
Since we did so much last month, Lori Johnson and I decided to have “work” night this month to finish your hutch, or something else you are working on, or maybe just to gab with each other. If you have any ideas or projects you would like for the club in the future, let Lori or me know. It’s great when you all share your talents.
Marjorie brought Marcia Fink as a guest to the September meeting. She was very impressed and asked if all the meetings were like that. Had to break the news – we don’t have “give-away” things at all meetings. An e-mail from her said she is going to join us and will get her dues to Georgia right away.
Wow! Already giving one of our “new member kits” away, thanks to Nancy W. She won’t be able to come in October but will be with us in November.
The minis given away last month were from the family of a miniaturist who had passed away. There may be more items in the future. Barb Hefti also announced that she knew of four dollhouses that needed homes. Contact her if you are interested.
That same family donated a Victorian House half scale kit that is an American Craft Product and has all of the components with it including Carlson windows and doors. We will have a drawing for that. Be sure to be at the October meeting if you want to put your name into the box!
Great news again that proves our club is just the greatest! Be sure to get the October issue of The Miniature Collector that features Marjorie Thomas and her Bed and Breakfast. The article and photos were submitted by our own Sue Veeder.
Those of you who are NAME members, be sure to check out the new Miniature Gazette, Vol 36, #1. There is a great section on the Borrowers. This will be a valuable resource for our community project.
The Christmas Party Committee is on the ball and already has a plan in place. The starting time is up for discussion, so take your thoughts to the committee or bring it up at the meeting.
If you have anything you want to do, discuss, or bring up at the meetings, please give me a call or e-mail so I can put you on the agenda.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday Oct 11.
Nancy Flanagan, President

SHOW AND TELL
Loretta Snee put together some doll parts she found among Birgit’s things. There were Bru and A. Marque parts as well as an Alice doll and a Heubach item. An original A. Marque doll, of which there are barely 100 in existence, will fetch over $250,000 at auction. These, however, are miniatures. Loretta made the armatures and padded bodies. What a wonderful craftsman she is.
Barb Hefti and Jodi Eklund attended an on-line convention of Quarter Connection and brought exchange items and purchased items. Barb was lucky enough to win a centerpiece of Kids and Critters playing in a wooded park. She made over 50 swimming pools and tire sandboxes and received some very nice gifts in return.
Jodi showed a dog in a dog house, quarter scale house, a level, umbrella stand with umbrellas, push broom and pan, crocheted blanket and pillow, box of blocks pull toy, a skate boarder, lamp with a purple turtle, duck pull toy, Raggedy Ann Doll. She had a Swedish Christmas tree, hand woven baskets (so tiny!), and a banana split.
Peggy Bugg showed an issue of Miniature Collector that had a four page story and pictures of Marjorie’s Bed and Breakfast done by Sue Veeder. Rita brought a finished quilt from last month’s project as did Loretta.
You can’t teach an old dog … new math.
SEPTEMBER
MEETING
Treasurer's Report
There is $857 and change
in the treasury from which she paid Nancy Woudstra $30 for new member tool
boxes.
Georgia said we already have a tax ID# but the federal government requires
that we register. She will contact NAME for further information.
Christmas Party
In the absence of Sue
Veeder, Marjorie Thomas reported on the Christmas party. That committee has
sure been busy and has come up with a sheet listing events.
The treasury will pay for our food that will be served at Marjorie’s house.
We are each asked to bring a wrapped Christmas ornament (any scale) that
should cost at least $5. All members should bring a plate of a
dozen Christmas cookies.
Christmas In September
Nancy had set up a wonderful display of minis provided by a friend of Marjorie’s that was up for grabs – and grab we did!
Visitors
There was an interested visitor at the Green Lantern but unfortunately she will not be able to come to any meetings soon because of illness in her family. Marcia Fink was brought by Marjorie. Marcia dug right in with a hutch which she thinks she will furnish with some little hats she has.
Other Business
Gerry will add cell phone numbers to regular membership list and send it with next Newsletter.
President is still waiting to talk to the Rock County Community 4H about our project. She thanked Linda Kasper for the dandy job she did with the cyclamen class at the Green Lantern. She is asking for donations for the silent auction.
Barb Hefti reported that a man in Janesville has four nice dollhouses he would like to give away, some of which are wired and may be furnished. Mary Clark will take one of them. Anyone interested should call Barb.
Nancy showed a beautiful tool box she put together using a 40% off coupon that included a mug tool kit, Tacky, tweezers, scissors, palate, Xacto knife, tack cloth, tiny screw drivers, sander, Wet Ones, emery board, brushes, pencil, and glue. How in the world did she do it? There are three kits.
Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Lori Johnson and then enjoyed the treat that was a home made cheese cake by Loretta.
HUTCH PROJECT
A number of people had started on their hutches at home so were in final stages of either the painting or trimming. Peggy had a variety of $1 hutches available. Nancy F and Mary Clark followed a Halloween motif. Barb was going to paint hers blue and put some fancy plates on the shelves. Rita Wandel will make a yarn and knit shop in memory of a dear departed friend. She had several other finished cabinets with painted flowers she picked up at Rose’s in Milwaukee. She showed a pad of Mat Stacks Brights about 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 that were heavy textured paper that she bought at Hobby Lobby. Her daughter Diane Barden will fill her hutch with food.
Loretta will give hers in a heart box to her grand daughter for Valentine’s Day. It will have a lot of heart shaped objects inside. Lori painted hers dark gray and will give it an aging crackle finish for an old fashioned kitchen with coffee grinders, etc. Donna Balsley and Marjorie will decorate theirs for Christmas.
Don’t change horses … until they stop running.
